Calibration of the LIGO gravitational wave detectors in the fifth science run

چکیده
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) is a network of three detectors built to detect local perturbations in the space–time metric from astrophysical sources. These detectors, two in Hanford, WA and one in Livingston, LA, are power-recycled Fabry-Perot Michelson interferometers. In their fifth science run (S5), between November 2005 and October 2007, these detectors accumulated one year of triple coincident data while operating at their designed sensitivity. In this paper, we describe the calibration of the instruments in the S5 data set, including measurement techniques and uncertainty estimation. & 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Status of the LIGO detectors
All three LIGO gravitational wave detectors have reached their design sensitivities. A sky-averaged detection range (SNR > 8) of more than 15 Mpc for gravitational waves emitted from inspiral binary neutron stars with masses of 1.4 M has been achieved with the two 4 km instruments. The fifth LIGO science run started in November 2005 and ended in September 2007. A full year of triple coincidence...
متن کاملGravitational Wave Detectors: a Report from Ligo-land
At the time of this conference, in June 2002, The LIGO Science Collaboration was getting ready to perform its first Science Run, where data will be taken with all three LIGO detectors. We describe here the status of the LIGO detectors as of February 2003, their performance during the “Engineering Run” E7 (Dec 28’01-Jan 14’02) and subsequent Science Runs in 2002/3. We also describe ongoing effor...
متن کاملThe LSC glitch group: monitoring noise transients during the fifth LIGO science run
The LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC) glitch group is part of the LIGO detector characterization effort. It consists of data analysts and detector experts who, during and after science runs, collaborate for a better understanding of noise transients in the detectors. Goals of the glitch group during the fifth LIGO science run (S5) included (1) offline assessment of the detector data quality, ...
متن کاملGRB-triggered searches for gravitational waves in LIGO data
The LIGO gravitational wave detectors have recently reached their design sensitivity and finished a two-year science run. During this period one year of data with unprecedented sensitivity has been collected. I will briefly describe the status of the LIGO detectors and the overall quality of the most recent science run. I also will present results of a search for inspiral waveforms in gravitati...

We report on a search for gravitational wave bursts in data from the three LIGO interferometric detectors during their third science run. The search targets subsecond bursts in the frequency range 100–1100 Hz for which no waveform model is assumed, and has a sensitivity in terms of the root-sum-square (rss) strain amplitude of hrss ∼ 10 Hz. No gravitational wave signals were detected in the 8 d...
